Hey there, spearos. This is The Stone Shot, your weekly dose of spear content (and maybe some fishing, but we try to keep it below the water line)

If you’re new around here, every first Thursday of the month I send out the DIVER email. What’s that, you ask? Let me break it down for you:

For The Noobs

This week’s for the newbies—or for those of you who might need a refresher on some speargun basics.

Our friend Aaron Young, AKA Key West Waterman, recently put out a “Spearfishing For Beginners” playlist. It’s one of the few places online where you can find all this essential information in one spot.

Maybe you know all this, maybe you need a refresher, or maybe you can learn something new. Here’s a menu served à la carte:

As they say, the expert never stops learning!

Mike Raabe has been working on “Ghosts Of The Pacific” for almost 4 years. In his words:

“Ghosts of the Pacific is a captivating and visually stunning documentary that delves into the mysterious world of the white sea bass, a prized and elusive species that has captured the imagination of spearfishermen along the Pacific coast. Through breathtaking underwater cinematography and intimate storytelling, the film explores the challenges and rewards of pursuing these “ghosts” of the deep.”

Coastal Cleanup Day

Mark your calendars, tell your friends, and sound the alarms. On September 21st, California will be celebrating its 40th anniversary of “Coastal Cleanup Day” a milestone that highlights the power of community in protecting our environment.

The state’s largest volunteer event is expected to draw more than 50,000 people across hundreds of locations from the sea to the Sierra Nevada, says a press release from the California Coastal Commission. Since the event’s launch in 1985, about 1.8 million volunteers have helped remove more than 27 million pounds of trash from thousands of miles of California’s beaches and inland shorelines. That’s more than just a dent!

Grow The Movement

Coastal Cleanup Day isn’t just for Californians; it’s a call to action for everyone who cares about their local environment.

No matter where you live, this day is an opportunity to come together and make a difference in your own community.
